Ben Aldridge - Biography
Ben Aldridge – How to Build Resilience in an Uncertain World
Bestselling author and resilience keynote speaker Ben Aldridge helps teams navigate change, handle uncertainty and feel confident in difficult times.
Restructures, upheaval, pressure and the general unpredictability of modern life turn up whether we are ready or not. However, we can choose how well prepared we are when they do.
Ben Aldridge teaches resilience as something we can train, not simply a personality trait we either have or don’t. His approach comes from askesis, an ancient practice of deliberately choosing difficulty as preparation, so that when genuine adversity arrives, we are ready to face it. Â
Drawing on Stoic philosophy, modern psychology and a long history of putting himself through challenges, Ben gives audiences practical ways to adapt to change and think clearly under pressure. His sessions are genuinely funny as well as useful, which is usually why people remember them months later.
Ben Aldridge Keynote Topics
Every session is tailored to the audience and works at any scale, from a small workshop to a main stage keynote.
- How to Be Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable

- The Philosophy of Resilience
A direct line from ancient Stoic practice to modern cognitive behavioural therapy, delivered as a practical toolkit for handling adversity, pressure and change. Everything is designed to be usable the same afternoon.
- Ancient Wisdom for Modern Chaos
What can two thousand year old philosophy tell us about a world moving this fast? Drawing on Stoicism, Zen, Taoism and contemporary psychology, Ben explores practical ways to find calm, perspective and even enjoyment in unpredictable times.
Ben’s story
Ben’s journey into resilience started with panic attacks and intense anxiety.
Looking for a way to manage this, he discovered the ancient Stoic and Cynic philosophers and their practical idea that we can rehearse for hardship rather than simply hope it passes us by. They called it askesis and Ben decided to test it out properly.
His experiments in askesis ranged from the demanding to the absurd: ice baths, marathons, triathlons, mountain climbs, stunt driving, meditation, lock picking, sleeping in strange places and eating unfamiliar food. Alongside those came deliberately uncomfortable and embarrassing social experiments, including telling unfunny jokes to strangers and walking a pet banana through London in tribute to Diogenes the Cynic.
The main lesson he learned was that doing hard things by choice makes the hard things you don’t choose considerably easier to handle.
This method reshaped Ben’s relationship with anxiety and eventually became a career. His books, How to Be Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable, How to Control the Uncontrollable, Seriously Happy and The Get Out of Your Comfort Zone Cards, have appeared on bestseller lists and been published in eleven languages, with his most recent title shortlisted for the 2025 Information Book Awards.
He now works with organisations around the world, helping teams build resilience and the adaptability to handle whatever the next twelve months bring.
